Besant Nagar beach or Thiruvanmiyur beach or Marina beach- Which is the best in Chennai?

If you were of the view that the Marina Beach in Chennai is the best beach, then you could be in for a surprise!!
According to a study undertaken by GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation, it was brought to light that the Besant Nagar beach in Chennai is the best beach in the entire city. It is followed by Thiruvanmiyur Beach and Marina Beach. Various parameters of factors that were taken into account while ranking the beaches in Chennai were shop bins, mass cleaning and cleanliness of toilets etc.
It is sensational to note that the Besant Nagar beach got 98.6 points and this was according to data from GCC. Next was Thiruvanmiyur beach with 95 points followed by Marina Beach with 92.9points. It is leant that the beach at Neelangarai got just 62.12 points and has been ranked last.
Two waste bins are present in all the 336 shops in the Besant Nagar beach whereas 2300 shops out of total 2500 shops in the Marina beach have got 2 bins. Every day, the GCC workers clean the beaches in Chennai but inspite of cleaning garbage gets accumulated at Thiruvanmiyur, Palavakkam, Neelankarai and Akkarai beaches.
The shocking piece of information is that all other beaches in Chennai have got toilet facilities except Akkarai beach and the toilets have been maintained well. There is a need now to construct a toilet in Akkarai beach as many people now come to this beach with their families and friends etc.
It was brought out by the GCC Commissioner Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi that beaches in Besant Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, Marina & Thiruvottiyur have been included in the ranking. The zonal officers have been asked to include beaches in Akkarai and Neelankarai also to the list. He wanted the beaches to be kept neat and clean.
For this, the shops in the beaches have been asked not to use plastic items. Point is that steps have been taken against the shops that use plastic items. Workers have been asked to clean the beaches immediately so that the beaches would be clean. Some environmental activists mentioned that the TN govt must create awareness instead of cleaning the shores.
