On Sunday, 22nd January 2023, the book fair at YMCA Grounds at Nadanam came to a close.
The sensational piece of information is that books worth rs 15 crores were sold in the book fair. This is the highest ever sales recorded in the 46 year history.
The number of footfalls at the book fair was 2lakhs more than that in 2021. This was revealed by BAPASI or booksellers and publishers association of south India. It is known that BAPASi was the organiser of the book fair. When compared to 2021, around 980 book stalls were put in this year and this is 180 book stalls more than in 2021.
The last day of the book fair witnessed many visitors, mostly youngsters and children with their parents. Historic novels and library fiction were the highest sold books in the book fair. Mr. SK. Murugan, secretary of BAPASI mentioned that this year there were more kids than last year.
The book fair saw stalls for the prison department and about 20000 books were donated by the visitors, publishers, ministers etc to the prison libraries. If the book fair was also organised in the neighbouring districts like Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram etc,the sales as wella the footfalls would be even more. This was as per some publishers.
