At the new building of the centre of excellence of the govt rehabilitation centre at KK. Nagar in Chennai there would be a new prosthesis manufacturing unit. On Saturday, the chief minister of TN would be inaugurating the new prosthesis unit here.
The health minister Mr.M. Subramanian revealed that the govt has decided to eliminate the minimum charges for the prosthesis it provides the patients. Point is that the artificial limbs made in the centre are highly advanced. There would be 180 degrees flexibility in the prosthetic limbs made at the centre and the people would be able to sit comfortably and get up easily.
Technicians working in the centre might be sent to the manufacturing unit at Bangalore to get trained in battery operated prosthesis making. Information collected is that the building having more than one lakh square feet space and constructed at an amount of Rs 39 cr would have a centre to issue certificates and ID cards etc. There would be a separate and easy access to the central campus from the building where assessing medical health and issuing of certificates would be done..
The differently abled persons would be getting protheses, certificates, wheelchairs, tricycles etc from the chief minister of TN. The state health insurance scheme of the chief minister would be extended to those who are differently abled and it is known that this scheme has got about 14 crore beneficiaries. It is learnt that those with leprosy and elephantiasis etc would also be added to the insurance scheme.
