Normally, on Sundays, the colleges in Chennai would be silent but yesterday( Sunday) MOP College for women was buzzing with activities. The College students as well as the teachers did not mind working together for another day. The MOP Bazaar at this college has been sensational. The fortune teller was very busy reading the cards of the visitors here and there was a heavy crowd around the fortune teller. The memory booth here had a long queue as the students wanted to take photos of them with the posters of their favourite movies etc. The food counters were crowded with people.
It was mentioned by the dean of Student Affairs Archana Prasad that the silver jubilee of MOP Bazaar was celebrated this year. She added that for the last 2 years the event was conducted online due to the Coronavirus pandemic and now the college has got a full fledged crowd again.
The main objective behind organising this annual bazaar at MOP College was to make the students experience entrepreneurship during their college years itself. The college has been promoting the idea and involving more people ever since 1998. Creating economically empowered women would be important and for that promoting entrepreneurship was necessary. It is believed that by empowering a woman many livelihood opportunities would be created for others.
With the guidance and support form the students and professors, the MOP Bazaar is being managed by the Ministry of entrepreneurship under the Sansad which is the student leadership body of the college. It must be noted that there were 150 applications for the stalls at MOP bazaar and 75 were chosen by the team of 26 students. The 5 categories of stalls here such as food & beverages, clothing & accessories, gifts and artefacts, games and entertainment and cosmetics were sensational.
