Indian Oil Corporation will proceed with the construction of five million tonne per annum liquefied natural gas terminal proposed in Ennore. Tenders from contractors are being finalized. The public sector oil company has decided to get into the construction stage even before tying up with the LNG suppliers.
Apart from proposing to set up an LNG terminal, a project in which Tamil Nadu government will have a stake, IOC earlier this year submitted an expression of interest to Petroleum & Natural Gas Regulatory Board for creating a 1,175-km-long pipeline network.
The EOI is for laying, building and operating natural gas pipeline from Ennore to Nagapattinam via Puducherry, with spurlines to Madurai, Tuticorin and Bangalore.
The project is expected to be completed by 2016-17.
