After breast cancer, cervical cancer is the second most common type of cancer that affects many women now. It is really shocking to note that 25% of women who are affected across the world are Indians.

It has been highlighted by data that every year in India about 80000 women are affected by cancer in the cervix. In this scenario, the Central govt has decided to implement a scheme to administer vaccination to the young school girls.

In the phase-1, HPV vaccines would be administered to the girls in states like Tamil Nadu,Karnataka, Mizoram, Chattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra etc. The Public Health dept of Tn is ready to implement this important scheme.

The health dept officers have mentioned that in TN measures have been taken to provide cervical cancer vaccination to girls between 9 to 14 years of age in the schools and in the anganwadi centres in TN.

The health dept officers have explained that the dept is collecting the names of school girls between 9 to 14 age in TN now.Thy have added that once when the Central govt provides vaccines the health dept would keep them properly refrigerated and then distribute the vaccines to the beneficiaries in the schools and in anganwadi centres etc. The guidelines are not yet published as the project is now in the beginning stage only.

It is now said that detailed instructions would be provided to the district health officers soon. There are enough health workers in TN for the effective implementation of the vaccination programme.

The health dept officers concluded that just similar to the implementation of the Coronavirus vaccination programme cervical cancer vaccination programme would also be implemented in TN.
