As many as 57826 cases have been booked against the pillion riders for not wearing helmets in Chennai by the GCTP or Greater Chennai Traffic Police personnel. It is shocking to note here that since January 2022 as many as 58 pillion riders have died in the accidents on the roads in Chennai. The traffic police have increased the vigil now.

In the last 13 months, the 57826 cases that have been booked for helmetless travel in Chennai were roughly 10% of the total cases that have been booked against the riders.

The news that has emerged out now is that from Tuesday onwards, those riders as well as pillion riders who come in their two wheelers by wearing helmets would be appreciated by the GCTP. These people would be given appreciation certificates plus roses etc. It is now brought out that the GCTP has requested the pillion riders to display their certificates from the GCTP on their social media platforms and also put those certificates on the status.

Professor in the dept of engineering design at IITM Mr. Venbkatesh Balasubramanian spoke about howa driver who knows the ambient environment would be able to take preventive steps to break the fall and protect his or her vital organs from getting damaged. He explained that the pillion rider would have lesser knowledge of the ambient environment and due to that would have reduced chances to take injury preventive measures. In Chennai, through this sensational drive, as many as 5600 bikers have received appreciation certificates till now.
