Once the repairs of the damaged portions in of the Kandaleru Poondi canal at Ubbalamadugu, 100 km away from Chennai is completed, the Water Resources Department plans to seek the release of more Krishna water from the Kandaleru reservoir in Andhra Pradesh. Workers are building an aqueduct, a box-like conduit line, in the damaged stretch alone, to allow the stream to flow freely beneath the canal. The aqueduct, a structure built at the point where a river or stream crosses another watercourse, would be 3.5 metre high and 5 metre wide. A gap of 3.4 metre would be provided beneath the KP canal to allow the stream to flow and prevent breaching.
Moreover Chennai Metrowater recently increased drinking water supply from 550 mld to 600 mld following steady flow of Veeranam and Krishna water.
