Many people now go to PHCs in Chennai for treatment - Whats attracting them towards PHCs?

Compared to last year, the number of outpatients who got treated in the Chennai corporation hospitals are more now!!

In Chennai, not all people can afford costly treatment is a well known fact. Till now, more than 1.08 crores outpatients have been treated in these hospitals in Chennai. Under the Chennai Corporation and Public Health Dept there are as many as 140 PHCs or primary health centres, 16 UHCs or urban health centres and 3 maternity hospitals and they operate for 24 hours in a day. 

Starting from fever, treatment is being given to patients for many diseases like dengue, malaria,  typhoid, chikungunya etc in these. Tests for diabetes and high BP are also conducted in these corporation hospitals in Chennai

Now, more people get treated at the primary health centres rather than at the private hospitals in the city. Beginning from 1st of April 2021 to 31st of March 2022, 9435865 patients got treated in these corporation hospitals.

In the same manner from 1st April 2022 to 31st January 2023 as many as 1crore 8 lakhs 89thousand and 533 persons have been treated. The fiscal year or FY has not yet completed and it is now expected that more people would get treated in the corporation PHCs in Chennai.

In Thiruvottiyur zone in the last year as manya s 435246 persons got treated at outpatients and in this year 510163 persons have got treated. In the Manali zone in the last year as many as 169432 got treated in PHCs and in this year as many as 158202 have got treated.

In Perungudi zone in the last year, as many as 397525 got treated and in this year as many as 375594 have got treated. Likewise in Sholinganallur zone as manya s 482320 got treated in the last year and in this year as manya 528265 got treated.

Patients who come to PHCs in Chennai spoke about how at the private clinics in the city Rs 300 to Rs 500 is collected as fees from the patients. Moreover, the patients would have to spend an additional Rs 1000 towards medicines etc. At the PHCs, free treatment is being provided to the patients and free medicines are being provided.  

The patients then mentioned that  earlier 2 days of maternity treatment per week was provided to the patients and now such treatments are provided for one day per week at the PHCs in Chennai.
