Now, in Chennai, MTC buses plying on the roads are fully covered with advertisements. This is done to generate additional revenue. Point is that the ad covered fleet code, registration numbers and reflective stickers on many buses are in violation of the rules.
Photos of the MTC bus with a full body advertisement have been posted on the TNSTC Enthusiasts, a FB fan page on public transportation in TN.
It was mentioned by Santapriyan Kamaraj, founder admin of the group that if any passenger has an issue with the driver or conductor of the bus then the passenger would get down and note the bus registration number painted on the side or on rear of the bus. He added that if the fleet code and registration numbers were covered with ads then how could a passenger express his issues about the bus crew or what reference point they would have. He then spoke about how the reflector lights were just warning signs of vehicles coming from behind in the night time.
On Monday, 5 MTC buses with full body ads started to operate in Chennai and this was mentioned by some MTC sources. The sources then brought out how the photos posted on the social media looked like they were taken at the bus depot immediately after ads were pasted on the buses. It must be taken into note that the ads covering the fleet code, registration numbers and reflective stickers etc were cut later on. In 1550 buses in Chennai. MTC has invited tenders for full body advertisements for boosting its non-fare revenue.
