It is true that by carrying the goods through a cargo ship instead of transporting it through the road would save 25% money. From tomorrow onwards, cargo ship services would start between Chennai and Puducherry.
It is a known fact that heavy vehicles plying from Chennai to Puducherry on the road would lead to heavy traffic congestion and reduced cargo handling capacity. Traffic congestion is caused due to frequent use of Chennai- Trichy National Highway.
Point to be noted is that from central parts of TN, spare parts come to Chennai and from Chennai goods manufactured are taken to several places like Puducherry, trichy etc along the Chennai-Trichy National Highway.
To reduce the traffic congestion along the above said highway, cargo ship services would begin tomorrow from Chennai to Puducherry and it would be for twice a week.
It must be recalled that in 2017 the Chennai Port Trust or CPT and Puducherry Port had signed a memorandum of understanding or MOU to handle cargo and to share the revenue. Subsequently, cargo ship operations plus port system and cargo handling machinery etc were designed.
A decision has been taken regarding operating a 67m cargo ship from Chennai to puducherry and from puducherry to Chennai twice per week. By this, the handling capacity of CPT would be increased by 600 TEU.
Benefits of cargo ship services:
There are 3 superb benefits of operating cargo ship services like save in money, save in time, and reduced emission of carbon etc. It would be possible to save 25% money by transporting goods through cargo ships.
