Chennai and traffic congestion are closely connected!!
It is obvious that Chennai has got a huge population and this leads to traffic congestion as many people use their own vehicles to reach their destinations in the city.
The GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation has been taking many measures to decongest traffic in Chennai. As a result, many flyovers are being built at several places in the city.
There would be 3 new flyovers in the city by the month of April and this was announced by GCC. It is learnt that the ongoing construction works have been completed and the authorities are busy carrying out installing CCTV cameras, lighting etc. Old bridge in the Stephenson Road across Otteri Nullah in Chennai has been demolished by GCC authorities and a new flyover is being built in the Thiru Vi Ka Zone on the Perambur highway.
It was confirmed by a release from GCC that the new flyover was 282 m in length and 2.70m in width and Rs 43 cr has been allotted .Information is that major construction works have been over and now construction of ramps on both sides have been going on.
At a cost of Rs 61.98 crores, a flyover is being built now in Anna Nagar zone near the Villivakkam Railway station. It is noteworthy that this 2 way flyover would connect the route between Kolathur Main Road and ICF. The road works would be completed soon and ramps have been constructed.
From T. Nagar bus stand to Mambalam railway station, a skywalk is being constructed now for the public at a budget of Rs 26 crores. The flyover would be of 600m in length and 4.2m in width and it would deconest the traffic. Other superb facilities lie escalators, lift and link to railway station would be present here.
