For creating cycling facilities on the Chennai roads, the officials belonging to CMDA or chennai metropolitan development authority have discussed with a Dutch company.
It is known that the chennai metropolitan area or CMA has been extended to 5904 sqkm. Now, CUMTA has been busy preparing the comprehensive mobility plan. Based on the National Urban Transport Policy of the Union Urban Affairs Dept, the plan would be prepared for the next 30 years .
The transport project would be designed in such a way that there would be less carbon emission and less air/noise pollution etc. This transport project would also be designed in a manner where there would not be any interruptions from the natural calamities like rains, floods and epidemics like Coronavirus etc.
Now, CMDA is in the process of making the Third Master Plan for Chennai and in the consultation meeting that took place recently provision for providing cycle space was also discussed. The meeting swa the presence of Mr. Anshul Mishra, CMDA member secretary, Dutch Cycling Embassy from Netherlands, Transport Policy Development Institute, Chennai cycling Mayor Mr. Felix John etc .
There were discussions about providing a separate cycle lane in Chennai for the cyclists, providing cycle facilities at the metro stations, improvement of cycle sharing system and cycle parking facilities etc. There were consultations held between all the departments about creating facilities for the cyclists in the Third Master Plan.
It was mentioned by Mr. Felix John that in the third master plan a request has been made for providing facilities for the cyclists.
