It is well known to us that the traffic congestion along the Chennai-Tiruttani High or CTH Road and along the Mount Poonamallee - Avadi Road Intersection is high. The good news is that the state Highways department has revived the 3 year old Avadi Flyover project whose objective would be to decongest the traffic congestion on the above said road stretches.

On 31st of March 2023, a public hearing for the private landowners has been scheduled by the CMDP or Chennai Metropolitan Development Project of the Highways dept. It would be held at the special tahsildars office in Thatchur. Truth is that from these private landowners, 2 acres of land would be required.

In the Avadi town areas, the traffic congestion would be reduced by means of Rs 70 crore grade separator that would be running parallel to the CTH Road for about 1.7km. According to some CMDP engineers, the Trichy bound vehicles from Chennaia and Ambattur could proceed without any interruptions. Every day, on an average, more than 1.1lakh vehicles use CTH Road stretch and in the peak hours the number of vehicles here is near 7200. This was mentioned by official data.

As a Tidel Park would be coming up in the vicinity, the numbers of vehicles would increase here in the future. The residents of Avadi want this project atleast to be completed on time and they have requested the Highway authorities also. It is noteworthy that all major infrastructure projects on the CTH Road and at Poonamallee-Avadi Road, Road Over Bridge at Pattabiram, road widening works and new SWDs were not completed on time.

There were close to 50 power shutdowns in the last 3 years to facilitate these projects and this was according to Mr. T. Sadagopan, a resident activist from Avadi. He added that there would be more interruptions.
