The Flying Rail project in Chennai has progressed significantly with the completion of the first phase from the coast to Mylapore, and the subsequent extension up to Velachery. However, the works for connecting Velachery to Parangimalai railway station faced a deadlock for over a decade.

In 2020, after the resolution of all pending legal cases, the work resumed and pillars have been erected between Adambakkam-Parangimalai. The works are progressing rapidly, and are expected to be completed in three months.

According to the Minister T. M. Anbarasan, the flying train works up to Parangimalai (St. Thomas Mount) will be completed in a couple of months. Following this, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin will launch it for public use.

Overall, the Flying Rail project in Chennai is expected to significantly improve transportation in the city and provide a more efficient mode of travel for commuters.
