The Department of Public Health of the State Government of Tamil Nadu has released guidelines and preventive measures against the recent spread of influenza fever in the state.

The Director of the Department of Public Health, Selvavinayakam, emphasized through a circular to all Deputy Directors of the Department of Health that the fever has been sorted into three categories, and treatment must be given accordingly.

In the guidelines provided by the Director of the Department of Public Health, it is mentioned that there has been a rapid spread of influenza fever recently. The spread and intensity of this fever are observed to be higher during the monsoon season, especially for children and senior citizens above 65 years of age. They are being treated based on the observed symptoms and the intensity of the influenza fever.

Persons with light fever, cough, pain in the throat, and body ache do not require tests to be done. They do not need the medicine oseltamivir. Isolating in the house and resting is sufficient. However, if senior citizens, children, and pregnant women are affected with the above symptoms, they can be administered the required dosage of Osaldamivin based on the doctor`s prescription after medical consultation.

Citizens with severe symptoms, such as breathing problems, chest pain, phlegm released through the nose with blood, fainting sensation, etc., must undergo immediate testing and be admitted to hospitals. All doctors, medical staff, nurses, cleaning staff, and the public must wear facial masks. Additionally, vaccination is strongly recommended for medical staff, pregnant women, and children with breathing difficulties.

It has been specifically mentioned that following the above guidelines must be insisted upon and monitored.
