The State of Tamil Nadu has a total of 55 tollgates. Out of these, tollgate charges are being revised for 29 tollgates effective from 1st April, with charges increasing from Rs. 5/- to Rs. 55/-, which has left vehicle owners and drivers shocked.
The 55 tollgates in Tamil Nadu are divided into 2 groups, and the tollgate charges are revised upward each year. Therefore, tollgate charges are set to be revised in 29 tollgates in Tamil Nadu State from April, as recently furnished by the Department of National Highways, which has released details of the revised tollgate charges.
As a result, vehicles travelling to Andhra, Karnataka, Coimbatore, and Madurai, and returning to Chennai will need to pay an additional charge of up to Rs. 55/-.
For instance, when passing the tollgate located at Trichy District near Kallakkudi, tollgate charges for Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs), including cars, are increased from Rs. 70/- to Rs. 75/-. For mini-freight vehicles of the LCV cadre, the tollgate charges have increased from Rs. 110/- to Rs. 120/-. For buses and trucks, it has been revised from Rs. 235/- to Rs. 255/-.
The tollgate charges for commercial 3-wheelers have been increased from Rs. 255/- to Rs. 280/-, and for construction vehicles, it has been revised from Rs. 370/- to Rs. 400/-. For higher capacity vehicles, the tollgate charge has been increased to Rs. 485/-.
The National Highways Commission has informed that the revised tollgate charges will be in effect until 31st March 2024.
