India`s Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has announced new measures to crack down on the sale of fake gold jewelry across the country. From April onwards, BIS will only permit the sale of gold jewelry with the HUID hallmark in 339 districts where gold is most commonly sold. This move aims to prevent consumers from falling victim to counterfeit products, which can be difficult to distinguish from genuine items.

Under the new guidelines, all gold shops in these districts must sell only jewelry with the HUID hallmark, while the sale of jewelry without this stamp will be prohibited. BIS has also announced that from April, gold jewelry with Hallmark will be mandatory in all districts except for the Idukki district in the state of Kerala.

This move is expected to benefit consumers across India, as it will provide them with greater confidence in the authenticity of the jewelry they purchase. BIS`s new measures are a significant step towards ensuring that the gold jewelry industry operates with greater transparency and accountability, and that consumers are protected from fraudulent activities.
