The existing syllabus vocational courses of class12 would be revamped and this was mentioned by the school education dept. The main objective behind this was to prepare the students to meet the industry needs. The sensational piece of information is that the new syllabus would have an internship for the students. For revamping the vocational syllabus and textbooks etc, a 7 member steering committee was formed.
According to a senior officer from the school education department a series of consultative meetings were conducted and after these meetings the panel recommended the revision of the vocational subjects syllabus. He spoke about how an internship in the industries related to the course would ensure the alignment of the revised syllabus with course content and introduced employability skill subjects for all the vocational groups.
National Skill Qualification Framework or NSQF would be developing the course contents and it would be recognised by TNSDC or Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation.
The senior officer from School Education Dept then explained that the revision of syllabi and textbooks is being done with the help of subject experts from the Technical Education dept, from ITIs, academicians and book authors etc.
It must be noted that the employability skills subject focuses on developing the students skills in communication, information and communication technology or ICT and entrepreneurship. The benefit of the revised syllabus for the vocational students would be that the students would not only get their qualification from the SED but also they would get industry approved skill completion certificate.
