For promoting sports, infrastructure would be created and this was announced by the minister for youth welfare and sports development, Mr. Udayanidhi Stalin at the Assembly yesterday. He assured that the sports policy would be formulated.
In the future, there would be mini sports stadiums at Kolathur, Chepauk,Vaniyambadi, Kangeyam,Sholavandan, Thiruverumbur, Srivaikuntam, Padmanabhapuram, Alangudi and Karaikudi assembly constituencies. The sports minister threw light on how these 10 mini stadiums plus the present 29 stadiums would be named the chief ministers mini stadiums.
At a total cost of Rs 90 crores, open stadiums and indoor stadiums would be established in 6 recently created districts in phases. There would also be distribution of sports equipment worth Rs 42 crores.
An amount of Rs 10 crores would be used to renovate hostels under the sports development authority of TN. At a cost of Rs 7 crores, a hockey centre would be opened in Kovilpatti in the district of Thoothukudi.
To promote parasports, Rs 6 cr would be spent to establish para sports arenas at 6 districts sports stadiums. It is now said that this para sports arena would be the first of its kind initiative In Ramanathapuram, TN Olympic Water Sports Academy would be opened. In all the districts every year, the Arignar Anna Marathon Run would be conducted in all the TN districts.
At a cost of Rs 3 crore, TN Champions Trust would be established also. It is learnt that this trust would tap into the patronage from private and corporate players for sports in Tamil Nadu.
