Promoting sustainable transportation systems for the women in Chennai!!
On Thursday, CMRL or Chennai Metro Rail Limited launched 50 women driven Rapid bike taxis services to encourage women to travel in the metro trains in Chennai. It is learnt that CMRL joined hands with Rapido , a bike and taxi booking platform and introduced feeder services at the metro stations in the city. Point is that women would get jobs now plus the metro train riders (especially women) would get reliable options for transportation.
Various metro stations in Chennai where the Rapid bike taxi services would be available for the woman passengers are 1000 lights, Teynampet, Egmore, Saidapetand govt estate. In future, the bike taxi services would also be available in other metro stations in Chennai as per the demand.
It is worth mentioning here that the director of system and operation of CMRL Mr. Rajesh Chaturvedi inaugurated this important initiative that is aimed at promoting sustainable transportation systems. It was later explained by a higher official from CMRL that through the MoU signed with Rapido the service providers would be allowed to pick and drop the passengers at the premises of the metro stations in the city. In case of violation, the concerned dept would act and this was regarding getting clearance from RTO.
