Greater Chennai Corporation announcement: Children under the age of 8 years NOT ALLOWED TO ENTER SWIMMING POOLS!

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has amended the government act, stating that children under the age of 8 years must not be allowed to enter swimming pools in areas under GCC`s jurisdiction in Chennai Metro City. A swimming pool has been set up in My Lady Park in Periyamedu on behalf of the Greater Chennai Corporation, and the contract for providing swimming training under various strict conditions has been awarded to a private agency.
Unfortunately, a boy recently died in this swimming pool due to negligence on the part of the trainers and lifeguards. The police have registered a case, and an enquiry is in progress.
According to the Tamil Nadu State Act on urban local administration, children under the age of 8 years are not allowed to enter swimming pools. However, the Greater Chennai Corporation had previously not allowed children under the age of 10 years.
