As the fishing ban season has commenced, the price of fish has shot up!

To ensure a considerable increase in fish production, the Tamil Nadu Government has banned fishing for 61 days each year, including the period when fishing in the deep ocean is prohibited.

Accordingly, this year`s (2023) fishing ban season commenced on April 15th and will continue until June 14th. The ban on fishing will be in effect for 61 days.

As a result, 15,000 fishing boats and trawlers from 14 districts in Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Cuddalore, and Nagappattinam, have been parked at the boat parking area for fishing boats.

With the ban in effect, the price of Vanjiram fish, which was sold at Rs. 800/- before the ban, is now being sold at Rs. 1000/-. The price of Sankara fish has increased from Rs. 350/- to Rs. 400/-, and Iral fish is sold at Rs. 400/- instead of Rs. 300/-. The price of Seela fish has also increased from Rs. 600/- to Rs. 700/-.

Fishermen have shared that the price of fish is likely to increase further.
