Chennai has emerged as a top digital payment transactions city in India for 2022, according to a report by payment services firm Worldline India.
Chennai processed 14.3 million transactions valued at USD 35.5 billion, while Bengaluru topped the list with 29 million transactions worth USD 65 billion. New Delhi, Mumbai, and Pune rounded out the top five.
The report also highlighted frequently visited merchant categories such as grocery stores, restaurants, clothing and apparel, and pharmacies as accounting for over 43% of transaction volume and 40% of transaction value. E-commerce, gaming, utility, and financial services contributed to over 85% of transactions and 25% of value.
