According to Mr.K. Ramachandran, minister for tourism, it was confirmed that more than 22 crores tourists have visited Tamil Nadu from other states across India for sightseeing.
On Thursday, the minister made his presence felt at Mahabalipuram (near Chennai) to oversee the tourism developmental works. He then went to a tourist inn called `camping site`. It must be recalled that this camping site was earlier given for private tender and after the completion of the contract it is again with the government of Tami Nadu.
He spoke about how in the near future Mahabalipuram would have a floating restaurant on a boat with 2 levels of 100 persons seating capacity. Important information gathered is that last year 22 crores of tourists visited TN for sightseeing and in this year 30 crores visitors are expected to visit TN.
There is a need for more funds and a request has been made to the Central govt regarding more funds. This was also mentioned by the tourism minister. He concluded that out of Rs 175 cr amount sought for tourism development in Tamil Nadu Rs 75 cr would be used for Mahabalipura mallapuram and Mudaliyar Kuppam would be turned into a little island.
