As soon as CMRL or Chennai Metro Rail Limited finalises the contract, the long pending work on the underground metro stations along the Madhavaram-Taramani stretch phase-2 project would begin.

For the last one year, there has been delay in the construction of underground stations between Madhavaram and Taramani. As the price that was quoted by the lowest bidders were very high, in 2021 CMRL cancelled the 5 tenders that were floated for building underground stations from Madhavaram to Tarmani. To make sure that more companies took part in the bidding process, CMRL have to make some changes in the loan agreement

It is important to note that the tenders for this stretch were divided into 5 packages like Madhavaram- Perambur, Ayanavaram- Kellys, KMC- Royapettah, Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai- Adyar Junction and Adyar Depot- Taramani. For the Madhavaram-Perambur metro line, a JV between Dinesh Chandra Agrawal Infracon Pvt Ltd and Soma Enterprises has emerged as the lowest bidder.

For the Ayanavaram-Kellys stretch, Tata Projects has emerged as the lowest bidder and Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd has emerged has bagged works on the remaining stretches of KMC-Royapettah, Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai- Adyar JN and Adyar Depot-Taramani.  Discussions would be held soon and the contracts would be issued to the respective companies and this was according to an officer from CMRL.
