It has been announced that applications may be submitted to join the graduate Arts and Science courses in Government colleges.

There are 164 Government Arts & Science (and Engineering) colleges functioning under the Directorate of College Education in Tamil Nadu. Out of these, 107,395 seats are available in Engineering colleges, and admission for students is already in progress ONLINE. The timetable for admission has already been released.

Accordingly, registration of applications will be in progress from 8th May until 19th May. Interested candidates may apply ONLINE, while students who cannot apply ONLINE can approach the College Help Centres. The details of all College Help Centres can be accessed on the website.

Following the receipt of applications, the merit list of the applicants will be sent to the colleges before 23rd May.

Subsequently, the first phase of common counselling is scheduled from 30th May until 9th June, and the second phase is scheduled from 12th June until 20th June.

The classes for the first-year students are scheduled to commence on 22nd June. The fee for application to these college courses will be Rs. 50/- for the common cadre and Rs. 2/- for the SC/ST cadre. As such, students had to pay an additional fee for every college they applied to last year. However, this year the system has been changed to facilitate students to apply for more than one college.

As per the new system, students can apply for up to five colleges with a fee of Rs. 50/- and Rs. 2/- as a registration fee. There are no charges for candidates belonging to the SC/ST cadre, and they only have to pay Rs. 2/- for registration.

Last year, a total of 2.98 lakh candidates applied for the Arts and Science graduate courses in government colleges. It is expected that this figure will be higher this year.

Further, the Department of College Education officials explained that the number of admissions can be increased by up to 15% as per the demand for admission in the first year.
