The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has completed the construction work of the Skywalk Bridge in T Nagar and the Villivakkam bridges. The inauguration of these bridges, expected to take place next week, will be officiated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. The new bridges aim to alleviate traffic congestion in these densely populated areas of the city.

The Skywalk Bridge in T Nagar, built at a cost of Rs 26 crore, spans 600 meters and measures 4.20 meters in width. It provides a convenient passage for pedestrians traveling between the T Nagar bus stand and Mambalam railway station, thereby reducing congestion in the bustling shopping district. Equipped with escalators, lifts, and a link to the railway station, the bridge offers added convenience and accessibility. The GCC has also taken measures to enhance its aesthetic appeal by incorporating beautification work, lighting, CCTV surveillance, and public restrooms. The maintenance of the bridge will be entrusted to the contractor, with necessary arrangements underway.

Similarly, the construction of a bridge near Villivakkam railway station in Thiru Vi Ka Nagar has been completed at a cost of Rs 62 crore. This two-way flyover serves as a vital link between Kolathur main road and Villivakkam level crossing 1 (LC1) road, enabling smoother traffic flow towards Perambur. Upon its opening to the public, the bridge is expected to significantly alleviate congestion in the area. The responsibility of maintenance will be assumed by the concerned zonal officials.

The flyover project on Stephenson Road, estimated to cost Rs 43 crore, is currently in progress and is expected to be completed in approximately 15 days, according to Corporation officials.
