The peak summer is now on in Chennai and the residents are feeling the heat.
For the very first time this summer , the temperatures have crossed 40 degrees Celsius yesterday, 14th May 2023. The effect of Cyclone Mocha has been severe in the city now as the change in the wind pattern direction has made the temperatures shoot up. It was hinted by the RMC in Chennai that the hot and highly uncomfortable weather would be there in the city for another 2 more days.
Vellore recorded the highest of 41.5 degrees Celisus yesterday and was followed by Nungambakkam in Chennai of 40.7 degrees Celsius or 105.2 degrees Fahrenheit. A temperature of 40.6 degrees Celius was recorded at Meenambakkam yesterday. It must be taken into account that generally the mercury levels in Meenambakkam would be higher than that in Nungambakkam due to absence of sea breeze in the outskirts. Point is that as the cyclone passes the winds from AP and Rayalaseema that are usually hot get pushed towards TN.
According to Mr. Senthamarai Kannan, director or Area Cyclone Warning Centre, RMC in Chennai, currently Chennai gets northerly- westerly winds that brings seabreeze into the land, This leads to hot and sultry weather conditions in Chennai And its neighbourhood places. In the subsequent days in Chennai, the maximum temp would increase by 2 to 3 degrees Celius. This change in the wind pattern would lead to more than 40 degrees Celius in few more districts in TN.
