Under the CSR Funds from City Union Bank, a solar power plant set up at a cost of Rs 25 lakhs has been installed in the Vadapalani Andavar Temple in Chennai. On Sunday, 21st May 2023, the minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments inaugurated this.
It is superb to note that this is the first time ever an entire temple has been solarised. Normally, only certain lights or functions like cooking for annadanam would be solarised. The minister mentioned that it was an environment friendly initiative. The main advantage of this initiative is that it would save expenses for the temple and the temple would also earn. The superb news is that major temples in TN will get solar power in the future. Solar power would be ensured in 47 temples as a first step. The temple would be able to make savings of Rs 5 lakhs per year.
