The long-awaited counselling process for students seeking admission to various Arts and Science courses in colleges across Tamil Nadu is set to begin on May 29. The Directorate of Collegiate Education, a wing of the Higher Education Department, recently concluded the online application process, which received an overwhelming response from over 3 lakh students applying for courses in Arts and Science colleges statewide.

As per an official from the Higher Education Department, the registration process has been completed, and the rank list based on Class XII marks will be released on May 25. The merit list will then be forwarded to the respective colleges.

Counselling for students falling under special categories, including differently-abled students, ex-servicemen wards, and sports quota applicants, will kick off from May 29 to 31. For general category students, the first round of counselling is scheduled to take place from June 1 to 6. This round will allow students to choose their preferred courses and colleges based on their position in the merit list. A second round of counselling for general category students is slated for June 12 to 20.

The counselling process will be conducted by the respective colleges, with students given the opportunity to explore alternative course options if their first choices are not available. The final list of admitted students will be prepared by the colleges and submitted to the Directorate. The academic year for first-year students is set to commence on June 22.

Currently, Tamil Nadu is home to 935 Arts and Science colleges, including 163 government, 139 government-aided, and 633 self-financing colleges, offering a wide array of educational opportunities for aspiring students.

With the counselling process underway, students can look forward to securing admission to their desired courses and embarking on their academic journey in the coming weeks.
