Chennai, June 10, 2023 - In a bid to make water and sewerage connections more accessible to the residents of Chennai, the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) announced today a comprehensive revision to their connection scheme. The new scheme includes extended areas in the city and allows applicants to pay the connection fee in convenient installments.
Under the revised scheme, both core areas and extended areas in Chennai will now have access to sewerage connections. The CMWSSB has taken significant steps to streamline the application process, ensuring that the public can easily avail themselves of these essential services.
To apply for drinking water or sewerage connections, the public can now directly approach the respective area offices or utilize the convenient online application portal at https://cmwsst.tn.gov.in. Additionally, applicants have the flexibility to pay the connection fee either in full or in installments, making it more affordable for all.
For individuals falling under the below poverty line (BPL) category, the connection fee has been set at a nominal Rs 100. Residential buildings up to 1,800 square feet in size now have the option to pay the fee in 10 installments. Similarly, for three-storey buildings spanning up to 2,700 square feet, the connection charges can be paid in three installments, spaced six months apart.
To facilitate convenient payments, applicants can choose from various payment methods, including the online payment gateway, cash, or demand draft. The Metro Water office in their respective areas will accept these payment modes.
This groundbreaking initiative by the CMWSSB aims to ensure that every household in Chennai has access to clean drinking water and efficient sewerage systems. By providing flexible payment options and simplifying the application process, the board hopes to encourage wider participation and empower residents to secure essential water and sewerage connections.
