Heavy Rains in Tamil Nadu Prompt School Closures in Chennai and Surrounding Districts

In response to torrential downpours across Tamil Nadu, specifically in North Tamil Nadu districts, the State Government has taken measures to ensure safety. On Monday, it announced the closure of schools in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Ranipet, and Vellore districts. However, higher educational institutions will remain open, as stated by the department.
A cyclonic circulation persists over the Southeast Bay of Bengal, situated between 3.1 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level. This weather system has led to heavy rainfall and adverse conditions in the region. The meteorological department forecasts that the Southwest Monsoon will further advance over additional parts of south Peninsular and East India, along with adjoining areas, from June 19 to June 22.
