Heavy rains in Chennai and its suburbs led to the diversion of 10 Chennai-bound flights to Bengaluru. Flights originating from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, London, Sharjah, and Singapore were unable to land in Chennai due to adverse weather conditions, resulting in prolonged circling in the air.
Chennai Airport control room officials made the decision to divert the flights to Bengaluru individually. Furthermore, 12 international and domestic flights departing from Chennai to destinations such as Delhi, Andaman, Frankfurt, Dubai, London, Abu Dhabi, and Muscat faced delays. Chennai Airport officials clarified that the diversions were due to heavy rains in Chennai and that the flights would return once the weather improved.
Meanwhile, continuous heavy rainfall in Chennai and its surrounding areas caused waterlogging on numerous roads. As a precautionary measure, schools in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, and Vellore districts remained closed.
