In response to heavy rainfall causing waterlogging across Chennai, the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) has initiated a comprehensive operation to address the situation. With widespread complaints from residents regarding water stagnation on roads and in various neighborhoods, the CMWSSB has mobilized a workforce of 2,000 field workers to undertake pumping and dredging activities.
Areas severely affected by waterlogging, including Vallurvarkottam High Road, Noor Veerasamy Street, Royapettah, Mylapore, Ambattur, Triplicane, and Thiruvottiyur High Road, are being targeted for immediate action. The CMWSSB has made concerted efforts to ensure that desilting operations have been carried out in order to prevent further water stagnation within the city.
Equipped with a fleet of 300 dredging machines, 57 high-speed sewage suction vehicles, and 180 jet trading vehicles, the CMWSSB team is working tirelessly to alleviate the plight of the affected areas. As of now, 327 sewage pumping stations are functioning seamlessly across the city, facilitating efficient water drainage.
To facilitate swift response and coordination, the CMWSSB has established a dedicated monitoring and control room that operates round the clock at its head office. Residents encountering waterlogging or drainage water stagnation issues are urged to report their concerns to the CMWSSB helpline at 044-4567 4567 (20 Lines) or the toll-free number 1916.
