Under the PPP or public-private partnership mode in several zones in Chennai, integrated parking and commercial development would be coming up. This would be according to the plan from GCC.
In 4 important locations in Chennai, the first phase of parking spaces would be coming up and these locations are RA. Puram, Kodambakkam, Alwarpet and T. Nagar. It is brought out that commercial spaces and parking lots would be developed in RA. Puram shopping complex, Kodambakkam zonal office of corporation, CP. Ramaswamy Road in Alwarpet and Dr. Nair Road in T. Nagar. It is superb to mention that each parking lot would be developed in land parcels of more than 40000 sqft.
The subject of development of parking spaces and the recommendations of the consultants who have submitted their reports would be discussed by the corporation council soon. The TN govt would make decisions regarding implementation of the projects for increasing the parking spaces in Chennai based on the discussions.
In many of the busy commercial places like RA. Puram, T. Nagar, George Town, Anna Nagar, Nungambakkam, Kodambakkam, Adyar, Alwarpet, Koyambedu, Purasawakkam, Washermenpet and Sholinganallur etc in Chennai, the residents have demanded the creation of parking spaces.
To attract more motorists to use the parking lots, the parking fee must be affordable and this was according to some councillors. To make the PPP mode successful, proposals have been made to increase the parking space from Rs 20/hr to Rs 40/hr. Information is that some of the present land parcels studied by the consultants have been encroached.
