Adyar residents would have been familiar with the 40 year old ficus tree on the 4th Main Road. This ficus tree has been translocated from this place to the bigger place near the Miyawaki dense forest site in Kotturpuram. The work was done by GCC as the tree was in the slanting position and was about to fall down.
The officials from GCC have brought out that the tree was slanting due to the presence of walls and buildings and the passersby were scared that the tree would fall on them.
On behalf of the requests from the residents associations here, the ficus tree has been translocated now by the GCC. This was according to Mr. Balaji, assistant engineer. He then spoke about how 20 GCC park dept staffs were involved in this translocation work. Information is that huge pits have been dug up without damaging the core part of the root of the ficus tree and a crane was utilized to lift the tree up.
Near the Miyawaki dense forest in Kotturpuram, a huge pit was dug and the ficu tree was placed inside the pit. It must be recalled that in Kotturpuram dense Miyawaki forest has been created by GCC by planting 40 trees and there is a superb green cover.
