Shankar Jiwal, the Commissioner of Greater Chennai Police (GCP), has been named the new Director General of Police (DGP) for Tamil Nadu. He will succeed C Sylendra Babu, who is retiring on Friday. Jiwal, a 1990 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, previously served as the City Police Commissioner and will now lead the state police force for a guaranteed two-year term.
In a related development, Sandeep Rai Rathore, the DGP (Training) at the Police Training College, will take over as the new Commissioner of Police for Chennai. Rathore, who previously served as the first Commissioner of Avadi City Police, has prior experience as the Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) in Chennai.
