How will you react if you come to know that in Pakistan there are many Tamil families? Shocked and surprised isn`t it!!
Point is that the largest city of Pakistan is Karachi and in this superb city there are many Tamil families living happily. Many decades back before the partition of India, a Tamilian named Velayoudam from Palli in Villupuram went to Karachi in search of livelihood. He started his life there and now his descendents are amongst the 150 odd Tamil speaking families in Karachi. It is important to mention here that these Tamil families are feeling very happy to be in Karachi which is home away from their original home in India. These families are connected to India through their culture, food and tradition.
It was later mentioned by Mr. Periaswamy, son of Velayoudam that he had gone to India just three times since his birth and all his family members are living in Karachi only. The Tamil community in Karachi celebrate Indian and Tamil festivals with great joy and enthusiasm. There are few temples present in Karachi and the cultural events take place in these temples. He concluded that inspite of being in Pakistan all the weddings and other functions were organised traditionally only.
