Chennai, July 3, 2023: The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) continues its remarkable surge in ridership, as passenger numbers for June reached an all-time high of 74.06 lakh. This achievement comes after May`s impressive 72.68 lakh footfall, reflecting a steady and sustained growth in popularity.
The momentum peaked on June 28, with a staggering 2.95 lakh commuters utilizing the metro system in a single day, setting a new record for the highest passenger flow.
In an effort to further incentivize travel, CMRL has been offering a 20 percent discount on both travel card and QR code ticketing systems. This move has contributed to a substantial 25.15 lakh passengers using the QR code ticketing system, while 44.81 lakh passengers opted for the convenience of the travel card ticketing system. Additionally, 3.98 lakh passengers chose the traditional token system, while 5,085 passengers made use of the group ticketing system. Moreover, 5,938 passengers embraced modern technology by using the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) or the Singara Chennai card.
