Medical admissions delay could lead to a potential two-month delay in commencing first-year engineering classes, officials revealed today. The counseling for engineering seats, originally scheduled to start on July 2, has been postponed to finalize MBBS admissions by the National Medical Commission (NMC), considering students who have enrolled for both streams. However, there has been no communication from the NMC regarding medical admissions. The Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE) expressed concern, stating that engineering aspirants are anxiously awaiting the start of classes. Even if medical counseling begins in the second week of July, the admission process may take two weeks, resulting in a delayed start for engineering colleges in September.
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has allowed an extension, but a two-month truncation of the academic year seems inevitable, with classes commencing in November. Students are hopeful that colleges will make up for lost time accordingly.
