The online registration for pursuing postgraduate medical courses commenced yesterday, Thursday, 6th July.
There are more than 42,500 seats available to pursue postgraduate medical courses and postgraduate diploma courses throughout India in government and private medical colleges, deemed universities, and central government medical institutions.
There are 4,200 seats available in the state of Tamil Nadu. These seats are filled up through the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), which is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
In this situation, the NEET for the current academic year was conducted on 5th March in Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, and in 900+ examination centers in 272 cities throughout the country.
25,000 candidates who had completed graduate medical courses participated in this NEET in Tamil Nadu State, and throughout the country, 2.09 lakh candidates wrote the NEET.
The results of NEET were released on 14th March.
50% of the available seats in government medical colleges are allotted for the All India Quota. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) of the central government conducts the counseling for admission to these postgraduate medical courses.
Once the results of the First Phase of Counseling are released, the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) will conduct the counseling and admission for the remaining 50% of seats in the Tamil Nadu government medical colleges.
Accordingly, the application/registration for the current academic year for the medical postgraduate courses commenced yesterday, Thursday, 6th July.
It has been announced that applications can be registered online until 5.00 PM on 13th July.
It may be noted that incentive marks are given to graduate medical students/doctors who work in rural and mountainous regions.
Increase in fees!
An increase in the fees for postgraduate medical courses has been implemented, just as it was for graduate medical courses. As per this, the costs for the MD & MS courses have been increased from the present Rs. 30,000/- to Rs. 40,000/-. An additional special fee of Rs. 10,000/- has been introduced! For higher-level medical courses such as DM & MCH, the costs have been increased from Rs. 30,000/- to Rs. 60,000/-.
