Controlling the rise in the prices in Tamil Nadu - Procurement of toor dal and palm oil for huge amounts etc!!

The minister for food and food supplies Mr. Chakrapani has informed that to control the rise in the prices in Tamil Nadu, palm oil and toor dal or thuvaram paruppu has been procured for a huge amount worth Rs 928 crores.

He mentioned in a statement that toor dal and palm oil were distributed to the family ration card holders under the special public distribution scheme launched in 2007 by the former CM of TN Mr. M. Karunanidhi.

The statement from Mr. Chakrapani also brought out that after the meeting that took place on 10th July 2023 between the CM of Tamil Nadu Mr. MK. Stalin with other ministers and officers regarding the price hike, a meeting took place on 11th July 2023 under his chairmanship and in the presence of the chief secretary of Tamil Nadu.

It is noteworthy that the chief minister of TN had written a letter to the Union Ministry of Commerce and Consumer affairs,  Food and Public Distribution Scheme and Textile dept minister regarding requesting the Centre to allocate 10000 MT of wheat and 10000 MT of pulses to the state of TN.

Point to be noted is that to curb the rise in the prices  purchase orders for 40000 metric tonnes of pulses worth Rs 464.79 crores for August and September 2023 plus purchase orders for 5.10 cr palm oil packets for July, August and september 2023 worth Rs 463.48 and total value of Rs 928.27 cr were also placed through TN Commodities Trading Corporation.

In this situation, toor dal and palm oil are being unloaded at all the zonal warehouses belonging to the TN Consumer Goods Trading Corporation. Information collected is that from these warehouses these items are moved to fair price ration shops and are distributed to the family ration card holders without any issue.
