In a move to address the increasing demand for safe and affordable housing options for working women, the Tamil Nadu Government has established the Tamil Nadu Working Women`s Hostels Corporation. This organization is responsible for constructing new hostels, renovating existing ones, and enhancing the overall living conditions for working women across major cities in Tamil Nadu.
On Thursday, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated two new working women`s hostel buildings in Guduvanchery and Trichy, located in the Chengalpattu district near Chennai. The inauguration took place through a video presentation at the Secretariat, showcasing the government`s commitment to providing suitable accommodations for working women.
Additionally, Chief Minister Stalin also unveiled seven renovated hostel buildings in various locations, including Adyar, Chennai. These refurbished facilities have been revamped to house a total of 458 women and are now open for immediate occupancy. The newly constructed hostels feature several amenities and advanced security measures to cater to the needs of working women. These include biometric entry systems, round-the-clock security personnel, 24-hour CCTV surveillance, online booking facilities, recreation rooms, purified drinking water, Wi-Fi connectivity, day care services, and ramp facilities for individuals with disabilities. These special features aim to encourage and support working women, ultimately contributing to the empowerment and improved status of women in Tamil Nadu.
The Tamil Nadu Working Women`s Hostels Corporation has successfully constructed a total of 684 bed hostels, amounting to an investment of Rs 16.5 crore. These hostels are strategically located in Chennai (Adyar), Trichy, Guduvanchery, Villupuram, Vellore, Perambalur, Thanjavur, Tirunelveli, and Salem, ensuring women in various parts of Tamil Nadu have access to safe and convenient accommodations.
