A sewage pumping station that is located on the third main road in Mathur in the Manali zone is making news for the wrong reasons.
It is now said that the residents belonging to Mathur are struggling to come to terms with the bad smell and potential health problems due to this sewage pumping station. The residents mentioned that the capacity of the pumping stations was 2.5MLD. Despite many complaints made in the last few months by Mathur MMDA People`s Welfare Association, no action has been taken to solve this issue here.
Everyday, atleast 50 lorries go to this sewage pumping station that was constructed 28 years back. The shocking piece of information is that many residents have developed wheezing and skin disease etc due to the sewage pumping station here. Truth is that the unhygienic condition of the area has been creating issues for many here.
It was pointed out by Mr. Rajarajan, head of TNHB Colony resident association that the officials have offered to close the wells and set up pipes for the fumes to go out. This would be a temporary measure only. He added that the sewage lorries must be directed to the nearby Kodungaiyur sewage water treatment plant.
Almost all the complaints from the residents have been addressed and this was according to an officer from the metro water dept. He hinted tahta detoxification plant would be set up and it would reduce the stench in the locality. The residents explained that the faulty construction of SWD last year was responsible for the mixing of rain and sewage water.
