GEM Hospital observes World Hepatitis Day with Free Medical Camp

GEM Hospital, Asia’s first dedicated tertiary health care centre in Gastroenterology and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery, is conducting a free medical camp for public to create awareness on liver health as part of the World Hepatitis Day initiatives at our Perungudi branch in Chennai.

Starting from 28th July 2023 till 6th August 2023, the medical camp will be open for the public from 8.00am to 3.00pm. This 10 day free camp will have experts from GEM Hospital conducting free consultation for the patients and prescribing them to undergo related tests and scans for further treatments if necessary. Various stations have been set-up in the premises for Liver scans, Blood testing and Fibro scan manned by fully equipped hospital staffs.

World Hepatitis Day is one of World Health Organization’s seven officially mandated global public health days. This year’s theme is “One Life, One Liver” with a strong focus to achieve the goal of eliminating hepatitis by 2030. GEM Hospital, an exclusive Gastroenterology centre has joined in the process of WHO for providing a hepatitis-free world”.

About the medical camp, Dr. S Asokan, CEO, GEM Hospital said, “The most significant objective of this awareness camp is to highlight the need to increase the extent of hepatitis prevention, screening and early treatment of the disease for a healthy liver. At the camp, we provide Free Fibroscan, a specialised ultrasound machine which measures fibrosis (scarring) and Steatosis (fatty change) in the liver, BC Virus test and Liver function test. GEM hospital will continue to organize many such initiatives in future to create awareness”.

Dr. P. Senthilnathan, Director, GEM Hospital Chennai said, “Among the types of hepatitis viruses (A to E), hepatitis B and C are the most threatening and cause nearly 8000 new infections every day. According to WHO, over one million hepatitis related deaths happen every single year. These deaths could be prevented with proper awareness on vaccination and the available effective treatments. A panel of doctors from the Hepatology, Hepato Pancreato Biliary and Liver Transplantation departments of GEM hospital will be organizing this free medical camp for the public”.
