In a promising development, two long-awaited bridges in Ganesapuram and Manali, Chennai, are set to ease traffic snarls for the area`s residents. The construction of these vital bridges, expected to open next year, comes as a significant relief for the North Chennai community, which faced severe disruptions during monsoon seasons due to waterlogging.
The Chengai Sivam bridge on Stephenson Road, catering to residents of Perambur, Otteri, Pullianthope, Purasawalkam, and Vepery, has been a lifeline during difficult times. With additional bridges in the pipeline, traffic congestion is expected to reduce substantially, benefiting the entire locality.
Addressing the issue of flooded Ganesapuram subway, a new bridge is being constructed near Vyasarpadi railway station at an estimated cost of Rs 142 crore. Similarly, a bridge at Manali, with a budget of Rs 96 crore, will alleviate container-induced traffic jams during peak hours.
Moreover, the Chennai Corporation is planning a much-needed flyover at Valluvar Kottam junction to further ease commuting woes, though its construction awaits land acquisition.
With these developments, the residents of North Chennai can look forward to smoother travel and uninterrupted daily routines, bringing much-awaited relief after decades of enduring waterlogged streets and alternative routes.
