The collection at the toll plazas in Tamil Nadu have only increased despite many demands for their closures. When compared to the toll plaza collections in 2021-22 that were Rs 2689 cr, the collections in 2022-23 have increased to Rs 3817 cr that is 41percent or above Rs 1122 crores.
The state of UttarPradesh tops the list for toll collection now and Tamil Nadu stands fifth in the list. This was mentioned by the minister for road transport and highways. Truth is that the toll collection in UP stands at Rs 5583 crores. In the top 100 user fees collecting toll plazas in India, 8 toll plazas in TN find a place now. The toll amount collected from L & T Krishnagiri Thopur toll plaza was Rs 251 cr. An amount of Rs 455 cr has been collected at the L & T Vadodara in Gujarat.
Toll collection amounts from various toll plazas in Tamil Nadu are
- Krishnagiri toll plaza - Rs 228 crores collected
- Vikkravandi toll plaza - Rs 162 cr collected
- Omalur toll plaza - Rs 150 cr
- IVRCL Chengapalli tollways- Rs 146 cr
- Nallur- Rs 134 cr
- Pallikonda- Rs 133 cr
- Paranur- Rs 129 cr
It must be recalled that the TN govt has demanded the Union govt to close as many as 5 toll plazas like Paranur, Vanagaram,Surpattu, Chennasamudram and Nemili located within 10km radius of corporations and municipalities etc. There were also demands to close 27 other toll plazas that were located within a minimum distance of 60km between 2 plazas.
