The summer season in Chennai is not yet over it seems!!

In the month of August, the temperatures have been very high in the city and the residents are finding it highly uncomfortable. On Monday night, the demand for power increased to 3992 MW. The Chennai residents have complained about the power cuts and voltage fluctuations etc and they were not happy.

It must be noted that the maximum temperature in the first week of August in Chennai hovered around 37 to 38 degrees Celius in Chennai and this has been the highest since the year 2004.

Reasons for high temperatures in August:

The dry weather along with weak SW monsoon conditions have resulted in the increase in the temperatures in August now in Chennai. This was according to some officers from the met dept.

To get respite from this scorching heat, people switch on their air-conditioners. It was later brought out by some officials belonging to Tangedco that Chenna city`s power demand stood at 3992 MW on Monday night.

The day`s energy consumption was 85.12 million units. The prevailing weather condition in Chennai and in TN has been responsible for the increased power demand now. The officials have added that many residents use air-conditioners more now in their homes and this has led to power cuts and voltage fluctuations etc.

The residents belonging to Motilal Street in T. Nagar were disappointed because of an unannounced power shutdown on Tuesday morning. The Motilal Street Residents Welfare Association has written a letter to the chairman of Tangedco regarding this.
