Mr. John Louis, special officer for Chennai and Chengalpet, was the cynosure of many eyes yesterday at the Kilambakkam bus terminus in Chennai. He gave his orders to the officers to construct culverts to prevent flooding in the forthcoming monsoon season. It must be recalled that this new Kilambakkam bus terminus was under water after sudden heavy rains lashed Chennai a couple of days back.
Mr. John Louis made his presence felt with other officers at the new bus terminus. He was involved in a discussion about the construction of culverts and RWH to prevent flooding in the monsoon season. It was later revealed by some officers that the construction of culverts was delayed as some of the patta lands had to be acquired on the opposite side of the bus terminus.
The officers were given orders from Mr. John Louis regarding land acquisition and removal of encroachments etc. The special officer explained that during the monsoon season the traffic at the NH Road must not be affected due to the flooding and the new bus terminus must be free from water logging. The state authorities must ensure all basic amenities in the new bus terminus as the terminus would be visited by many people.
